The project How do you see this? Teacher beliefs around Multiliteracies (COM) is funded by the Jaume I University as part of its citizen science projects. Its main aim is to learn about your teaching experiences with multiliteracy, a concept closely related to multimodal texts and multilingualism. Even if you are not familiar with this concept, you can still participate, as it is another way of referring to teaching practices that use different types of texts, take into account multilingualism and interculturality, or work with mediation and multimodality, for example. In other words, we want to know about your teaching practice regarding multimodal and multilingual literacy. Specifically, we will explore what you think about these concepts, how they are present in your classroom, and try to link your ideas with those of other colleagues.
How do we plan to collect this data? Through a visual diary. Using an app (called Indeemo, which you can access for free), you will post photos between May and June, accompanied by short texts (no more than 150 words) in which you respond to suggestions, questions or ideas that we will also send you via the app. We don't want this to be a lot of extra work for you, you'll only need to make a total of 8 contributions to the diary.
Just as we ask you to ensure anonymity in your photographs (no faces should appear, especially those of children), we will also take your privacy very seriously. When sharing your posts, you will use a unique code that we will provide, so your name will not appear under any circumstances. Your responses will be used in a workshop at the Summer School organised every year by the Moviment de Renovació Pedagògica de Castelló (Castellón Educational Innovation Movement). In these workshops, the anonymised diaries of all participants will be analysed and conclusions will be drawn. These conclusions will be used to develop, among other things, a decalogue for the promotion of multiliteracy and an art exhibition later this year.
We hope that this task will lead to a process of reflection on your teaching that will be useful in your daily work. In addition, we would like the ideas that emerge to be passed on to other teachers and future teachers. The aim is for everyone to benefit from the project!
If you would like to collaborate with us, please fill in this form, which will give us your consent to participate in the research: https://forms.gle/BSJRbmsExKUwVTp16
In the form and in the document that is linked within the form, you will find additional information about the more technical aspects of the project. Please read it carefully. Once you have read it, it is very important that you select the consent buttons and send the form. Without your authorisation via the form, we cannot include you in the research.
